WHAT TO MEASURE WITH?
A tape measure is ideal and will allow you to follow the lines of your support without losing millimeters. Otherwise a ruler or a meter.
HOW TO MEASURE PROPERLY?
Some patterns are straight (e.g. Shimano) so easy to measure, but others can have a more complex shape (e.g. Hot Wheels and Fox) so don't forget to take the measurement at the most extreme locations.
